Chapter 13
Chapter 13: keep the house and catch up over time
For people who are behind on a mortgage or car, earn too much for Chapter 7, or own something worth protecting.
You make one monthly payment to a trustee for three to five years. The trustee pays your creditors from it, and the missed mortgage or car payments are spread across the plan.
Creditors are held back for as long as the plan runs. When it ends, most of the unsecured debt still left is discharged.

How a plan is built
Your plan, one piece at a time
Your budget comes first
We start from what your household spends, not from what creditors want.
Arrears spread out
Missed mortgage or car payments are paid back across the plan.
One payment a month
Usually taken straight from your paycheck, so it’s never late.
Room to change
A lost job or a new baby can change the plan. We file the change.
Chapter 13 questions we hear most
What if I miss a plan payment?
Call us right away. One missed payment can usually be made up or the plan changed. Several in a row can end the case.
Can I pay off the plan early?
Sometimes. It depends on how much your unsecured creditors are owed under the plan. We can run the figures whenever you ask.
How is the fee paid?
A small part before filing, the rest through the plan payments, as the court allows.
